Eight-track. A little before your time, Irish, but that was our mode of car stereo. Actually I still have a few pieces of component stereo and a small remaining collection of vinyl, including most of Dave Brubeck's recordings, almost all of Frank Sinatra's (boy, am I dating myself), Sergio Mendez and Brasil '66, and even a recording of "The Peaceable Kingdom", beautiful choral music written by Randall Thompson that our high school choir did back in 1967, the year we graduated.
I had a Pioneer turntable, Marantz receiver, Akai reel-to-reel, Pioneer duel cassette deck, Sony DAT, and a equalizer pumping into Bose 201 speakers back in the day. The turntable, DAT, and reel-to-reel are gone but the rest is down in the basement and get turned on frequently.
Off topic for Doc, it may not be merry for you, but have a pleasant Christmas day, and remember, he will know you are thinking of him, and his spirit is with you.
My buddy and I would spend hours recording records to cassette for the underdash player in my parents car :)
