  1. Got there in Nov, '84 in the dead of night. Wintered over, then went to BE&E and EM 'A' School before trucking off to Orlando for Nuke school. Lost my wisdom teeth there - had the boot print on my forehead to prove it.

  3. Went to MM "A" school there fall of 75. Damn cold winds coming off the lake but watching hours-long thunderstorms out there was kind of relaxing. The 600# plant if it is still there would be my last duty station standing.

  5. Is that an LPD? Sure looks like it. Signed up for the suck in 77. Got out in 81 and swore I'd never go back. 1986 I shipped out again and retired in 02. I miss the people but nothing else. Never met a finer bunch of assholes in the Corps.

  8. Great Lakes, winter of ‘89. Navy told me I was going to San Diego. Liars. 6yo, BT A school and C school. First ship was FF-1067. 1200lb plant. Worked hard and partied hard. Good times, good people.

  9. An anniversary to be proud of Doc. From what I gather, a trade to be proud of as well. Congrats!
Little Creek is a different place now, last time I worked there was just before 9/11. My daughter works there now. She will leave Navy service from there in July. 3 access gates that get backed up regularly.
I'm Merchant Marine, earned my Masters ticket in 1983. I still work with a lot of people who went through Great Lakes.

  12. Thank you for your service! Great Lakes A school winter 76, then Orlando for nuke. One day SP woke me up at 5am to inspect my car. Apparantly during a ride to town with a few of my cohort the previous day, one of the backseaters left MJ seeds under the driver's seat. Within a day or 3, shipped to Rota to join LSD 34 on my first Med cruise.

  13. You make each day brighter for a lot fellow shipmates. I relish your daily posts and it’s always a GOOD morning when you share your wisdom. THANKS, Doc.

It’s always the folks you share your time with that make the experience what it is and was, and it was no different for me - Dec 1993 off to boot camp in Orlando with MM A school and nuke school. Then to Saratoga Springs for MARF and ELT school before finishing up in Groton in 1999. It did suck, but it’s a cherished suck.

  14. Was scheduled to arrive there at the end of winter '92 but ended up at the Academy instead. Never did make it to Great Lakes, but Uncle Sam did invite me to tour the world and the seven seas. Great times, shipmate. Cheers! -Brewer96
