People attacking the unions are ignoring the bigger problem. These ports' infrastructure et al are owned by foreign countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia. They are not owned, controlled nor ran by Americans. Why is this allowed? Ports are part of our nation's national security yet foreign, potentially hostile, countries are allowed to own the infrastructure required to run the ports. I'd take a union thug working in an American owned port over an automated port controlled by a potentially hostile foreign country. Regardless how the strike evolves these ports and the U.S. supply chain are at the mercy of foreign countries. Foreign countries who in a fully automated port could shut the entire port down due to foreign relation disagreements or other nefarious reasons.
I'm still researching this but the optics and timing stink to high heaven, plus a pay increase so large? They almost sound like the Chicago teachers union on meth.....

ReplyDeleteThank you sir, it needed to be said.
ReplyDeleteIt is not a 70% pay raise it is a 77% pay raise. Must be nice to disrupt the national security of a nation and get a 77% pay raise out of it.
ReplyDeleteHeltau
Certainly not the first bunch to sell out our security for a buck. Scumbags control everything it seems
