Welcome to Obamacare....

  1. That is actually a fairly common sight in orthopedic surgery. The surgeon is in the process of removing a device
called an intramedullary nail.....a piece of hardware used to fix (immobilize) Tibia fracture. Usually once placed they
are left in but occasionally they have to come out.....and it takes a lot of work to get them out. This has been common
practice for more than two decades. It looks brutal...and it is. Orthopedic surgery is sometimes about finesse...but
often it's just carpentry using tissue rather than wood. And after some procedures the surgical suite looks less like a
room in a hospital and more like an abattoir.
