Googled it, and the TU-95 _is_ what we/NATO called the Bear. Not bad for a 45 year old memory. The memory, NOT me ;-) Call me crazy, but I really liked the Hind, the MI-24. And the A-10 Warthog, too. like my old English bulldog, they're so ugly they're cute.
On a day in the middle of 9/14, I saw one of those fly over my house about 6 miles inland of the Pacific coast at about latitude 44.5. It was a day with very high cloud cover, but for a few minutes there was a window of blue sky, and this went by coming from the SW and turning to the NW. The turbo props were shining in the sunlight and it sounded very different than a normal high flying large jet. What were they doing there, and why did we not hear anything about it?
It's been 45 years since my last aircraft familiarization classes. Is that an od Russian "Bear"?
ReplyDeleteTU - 95, as backwards as the Russians were, they sure built them pretty.
