Yup, this is the 'big wheel' concept for crossing trenches, the bigger the wheel, the wider the trench it can cross. NOT a Russian invention, a British one and demonstrated in smaller scale to Winston Churchill when he was Naval Secretary; when you 'squash' the wheel into a lozenge form, use tracks instead of a solid rim, what you have is called a 'tank', and who had the first ones of those? Oh yes, it was US. Russian my sacred butt.
