Andy simply lifted the poster up, left the top secured to the wall, and slid into the hole. The poster then simply fell back over the opening. I watched the scene after the first time I saw the meme. Nothing in the scene, including the warden throwing the rock through the poster, makes that NOT a plausible theory.
