Except that they'll still use the pre-made dough and sauce instead of making it daily like Pizza Hut used to, back in the 80's when I worked there. They will also still use the same cut-down amounts for ingredients. A large single topping pepperoni used to have 60 pepperonis (we had to count them) now it has 36 or 24 if it's a multiple topping pizza. Used to be 45 for multiple toppings.
Goddammit, can't you be happy that someone is making an effort? Or are you so stuck in the past that your vision has been skewed to the point that you sound like the geezers you probably once railed against. If so, what a sad, pathetic being you must be. Kinda sounds a lot like the ingrates (both left and right) that pollute our society today. Yesterday ain't coming back...end of story. But a valid and honest attempt at a facsimile ought to be welcomed on concept before contempt is issued without consumption. But you be you there, bucko. 👍
What's the fucking point of making a restaurant appear to belong to the past, as this owner is doing, if they keep serving the same tired shit on a platter, especially if "Yesterday ain't coming back", as you so eloquently put it? If "someone is making an effort" then that effort had damned well better include improving the quality of their food rather than following the current recipe for failure, otherwise they are fooling themselves into believing things will improve. I, for one, remember patronizing these establishments back when they cared about their customers and serving a quality product. This was most likely before you were born, though. It had flavor then; it was not watered down by becoming "lowest common denominator" and bland as hell. If this was a "valid and honest attempt at a facsimile", as you say, then they would do things correctly with regards to their pizza instead of just smearing lipstick on a pig and calling it Marilyn Monroe. I suppose I'll just continue to be my own "sad, pathetic self" and have a bit of hope that SOMEONE will finally get this shit right, without resorting to personal ad hominem attacks as you did. You just keep right on stirring the shitpot, JB. FLAME ON!
Easy there snookums, you missed my point entirely. Ad hominem....hah! I like that. You're a funny carbon based life form. And yes, I am old enough to have experienced The Hut in its prime...even held a high score on the Pac Man table (in my area) for a short period. I agree with you that it was better back in the day. My contention, however, was your seeming insistence that it come back 100% to what you, yourself, deemed appropriate. That shit just can't fly in this day and age...sad as that may be. It's all "design by committee" these days...who are we offending, excluding etc...not to mention the changes in the basic ingredients that made the shit good in the first place. FFS a good and effective bug poison cannot be found these days. I remember the Ortho poison concentrates in the glass bottles (that you had to mix) that were basically yard nukes from back in the day that my dad in I used in our 1/2 acre garden. That shit worked. I was trying to posit that a good first step was being put forward, and a little patience might be necessary to see how it turns out. Van Halen's last album with DLR (A Different Kind of Truth) was good...weak in some spots, but overall a nice return to what made them great, at least from where I stand, but it could never rival Fair Warning or the debut album. Sure it was from old riffs back in the 70s and some reworked songs off the Gene Simmons produced demo, but they weren't 21 any more. Shit changes, and tough pills sometimes have to be swallowed. Sometimes it just is, and we can either roll with it or not, and the chips will fall where they will. In short, do you need a hug there, snooks?
Nope there Honey Bear, I didn't miss the point, it just wasn't a strong enough point to make any sense to me. While I agree wholeheartedly that things today aren't as effective as they were back in the day I still FIRMLY believe that if the owner is going to dress up his franchises to cater to the "old school crowd" then he needs to serve what the "old school crowd" remembers. I also agree with you about Van Halen (and the Stones for that matter) and know that things peak and then decline. What I take issue with is that the decline has been so precipitous that merely changing the window dressing is not a sufficient "first step" when the product is clearly substandard. Just like McDonald's fries. They used to use tallow, now they use vegetable oil and the flavor has suffered as a result. Oh, and no, Honey Bear, I don't need a hug. How about a beer?
i still think it's pretty awesome. my wife and i spent many a pleasurable sunday afternoon in one of those when we were dating; sharing a pizza and a mug
